A Hard Days Knight

Hello Everyone,

I've been working on a model. A big (ish) model. I don't normally share everything I do (Perhaps I should?). Anyway, I think you'll like looking at this one. Not much to say specifically, so here is a dump of, what I think, are pretty pictures.

If you do want to know what I did, or how I did it, then drop us a note in the comments and I'll explain myself.

  1. In the words of my new countrymen, that, sir, is bang tidy. Kudos.

  2. Good Lord, sir. Explain yourself at once.

Particularly, how much is freehand? Are you using weathering powders at all? I fear I may be called upon to paint a Knight in the future at some point, and preparations must be put in place.

    1. Well, there is no weathering powders, and the only freehand is the scrapes, dents, and bulletholes. All the markings etc are just the decals from the box.

So the general process for decals was to paint it so it's really pretty. Then give it a really smooth coat of gloss varnish. It has the be really smooth. I used an airbrush for most of this one. Once the gloss is dried, apply the decal using water mixed with a little micro set. Once it was dried I painted over the decals with micro sol. This kind melts the film a little, and after a few coats it really sets hard against the gloss. The did the weathering, followered by a good layer of matt varnish. The soot was all just black paint and careful airbrushing. The dust was Vallejo German Came Beige thinned down hard using airbrush thinners and applied wth a brush to where you need it.

  3. Dude, that is an excellent scheme, and deliciously executed. The Aquila decals on the shoulders look great too, I'm always impressed with decals over curved surfaces :D

    1. Thank you kindly. Those shoulder decals took some doing. There was swearing, tears, and only a moments where I had to resist throwing the damn thing across the room. But worth it in the end.

  4. Lovely work, base is too lawn-like for my tastes, but good all the same. Can't always be desert or churned mud! Great stuff.

    1. The phrase 'lawn-like' made me chuckle, and made me worry for the health of your lawn :P
