The Management Wish to Announce a Change

I've been having a think about my priorities.

The Beard Bunker has always been something that is written purely for fun. We try to keep to a schedule, because without schedules nothing ever happens, but ultimately it's a hobby project that has to fit in alongside work, writing other things, volunteering, et cetera. Between doing the photography and the writing, I find producing the average post takes the better part of a day. Since the number of Bunkerettes who are currently able to post has steadily dwindled, this means that myself and Tom are writing the bulk of the content. This is not a source of resentment; no-one's being paid, and no-one's under obligation, but writing said content is, unfortunately, eating too much of our time.

We both feel we could comfortably write one post a month. If we each do that, this means the Bunker could healthily sustain a fortnightly schedule, rather than the weekly pace we've historically aimed for.

It's worth saying that nothing dramatic is occurring within our gaming group; all the Bunkerettes are still regularly hanging out and playing games. I very much hope that you'll see more than just Tom and myself posting here, since I think the Bunker is greatly enriched by having a variety of voices. This is merely an adjustment.

What is annoying is that today's post was going to be an actual post. We finished the 18-month-long war in the Lachesis system over the weekend, and I'd love to have provided you with some narrative 40K goodness, but such efforts were torpedoed by a power cut that lasted from this morning through to the late afternoon. Power grid willing, I shall return next week with something more interesting than a scheduling change.

We will, thereafter, become a fortnightly experience.

See you next week, and thank you for being such a charming crowd of readers and commenters!

  1. Would much rather fortnightly posts that you're all happy and comfortable with than having you force through weekly when it isn't viable!

Looking forward to Lachesis! Always a delight.

  2. As dissapointing as it is to see that I'll have to go every second monday without content from you wonderful people it is genuinely heartening to see you folks putting yourselves first. A hobby should remain a hobby and not become a source of stress. Thank you for the update and can't wait to hear about the conclusion to the war on Lachesis!

    1. Cheers Mr Benthis! There's about five different ways I can think of writing it, all of them requiring differing amounts of effort. We'll see which one I go for! 😆

  3. Take care! You know that we will cheer for you every post of the way, regardless of frequency. Your cheer and happiness come first - they are very enjoyable to read, and no threats to them shall be tolerated!

After all "no problem is a match for honest human enjoyment backed by a sufficient amount of guns", wasn´t it how the imperial saying went?

I apologise for having been a lurker for so long, but was having a bit of trouble with the gruesome threesome that my sorta-deprecated-computer, chrome and blogger were having with each other. Luckily to be sorted out soon!

At last, I am SALIVATING at the prospect of a final Lachesis account and echo Mr. Benthis sentiment, so no hurries! Please just take your time to enjoy writing that one, your narrative campaigns are an AMAZING way of vicariously living the hobby (I save the campaign files you post as Gollum tends to his precioussss) and have done wonders for my morale.
So no feeling guilty about things, this is probably about against some law somewhere. Maybe even Imperial! Probably a local one in pleasure worlds though.

  4. Why not do a daily hot take on current events in the wargaming space? You can post the most contrary opinion possible, but phrase it as a question (hey I'm just askin') and then farm the engagment for ad revenue.

I am available for ragebait articles, call me

    1. Ugh, just imagine XD

Having a website divorced from the internet's rage-based ecosystem and adalanche really is delightful.

  5. If you're going to Post on a schedule, real life will write that schedule. This is well, and this is good. Nobody's getting paid to do this, and yes - a good Post is a day's honest work. I'd rather you kept doing the thing at reduced frequency than burn out and not do the thing at all. So yeah. Do the thing, and do it your way.

By the way, per the Battle Company completion and the siren song of the next big thing: I have recently become aware that a Reserve Company of Ass-tarts, i.e. ten squads, two lieutenants, one captain and support vehicles/transport elements, can be done in a 3000 point list. It's Bastion Task Force, so very basic, but I don't hate basic. I have also become aware of Two Thin Coats' Dark Arts range and how perfect it would be for Imperial Fists. And I play a lot of Necromunda. The planet where the Imperial Fists have a presence and recruit.

I'm so glad I don't have any money. I could have been about to do something very unwise.

    1. Thanks Von, and yeah, it's funny how many marines you can fit in a list. One would think a company of marines would be gigapoints, but 100 intercessors is a mere 1,600 points, so it follows that you could do a properly supplied force at 3K. Which, of course, only serves to further justify my life choices, so thank you.

A company of Imperial Fists would be cool as hell, though. So if you encounter a windfall I wish you good luck in your journey down temptation alley!

  6. I say we were all spoiled anyway - HALF RATIONS for the readership see how they LIKE it! I'll lend my voice and thank you for championing sustainable hobbying for hobbying's sake. Very glad to hear the bunker is still getting the hang outs and the games in. Happy February!
