The Beard Bunker

When we decided to hold the first ever Beard Bunker painting competition, we needed a neutral figure, since we all painted different armies, but we wanted someone suitably powerful and impressive.  So who better to choose than the intergalactic space warrior, leader of the Recyclons from Sigma IX, Count Binface! Sometimes it’s hard to know where to start when trying to make narrative campaigns happen, but today’s post will walk you through the Beard Bunker’s most recent campaign weekend, and honestly the process couldn’t have been simpler. In summary, it went like this: I met this guy RJ in a previous weekend campaign ( part 1 , part 2 ) put together by Bristol Tom, whose beautiful Ynnari army is incidentally featured in this month's White Dwarf (issue 514). I liked the cut of RJ's jib, so under the misapprehension that he'd now moved to Bristol as advertised, I invite him for a day’s gaming. RJ tells me he’s still in Fife. We proceed anyway, but make it a weekend. I ask him what he’ll bring. He tells me necrons. I ask the other necron appreciators in our group if they’re down. They are. I rummage around our wiki for worlds that’d suit a necron raid, and find the under-utilised blackstone mines of IOL-804 .  In the Grim Darkness of 2023… …we did more hobby.  Public shocked.   Politicians outraged.  Who could have expected this?! Tom : We’ve been a little on and off with these recap posts over the decade but over the last few years we’ve got pretty good at consistently remembering to do it.  In 2023 10th edition 40k came out.  As usual with the last few new 40k editions, 10e has some issues we grumbled about but overall seems to once again be the best edition ever.  That said, the codex reboot has put us on the back foot a little and we haven’t had any major big group events this year.  And, as you will see below, 2023 has been a less than stellar year for many of our nerd herd.  Nevertheless, lets see what everyone has been up to. Call it the Pile Of Shame, the Cairn Of Opportunity or the Heap Of Grey, everyone in this hobby has some models they haven't yet painted and face the dilemma of wanting the new shiny thing when they haven’t finished the old shiny thing.  Today we’re going to look at how a few Bunkerites manage their backlogs. I wish  this was my full backlog... Tom I started collecting 40k as a kid, with very limited money.  It was a hard cap on how much I could buy, even when most of my birthday presents and Christmas presents were Warhammer too.  When I became an adult with lots more money to buy models and much less free time to paint them in, I ran into problems.  Especially as that was around the time of the first big Apocalypse release with big limited time good value bundles of big formations and entire armies.  I still have things on the sprue from those days.   I have a limited capacity to hobby.  If I buy stuff quicker than I can build and paint it ...

The top sides were Mephiston Red, Evil Sunz Scarlet, and Wildrider Red. I added a little Bugman's Glow around the lips. The tongues got a basecoat of Khorne Red with a wash of Druchii Violet The eyes were picked out in yellow and the teef in Rakarth Flesh, Agrax Earthshade Wash, and highlighted with Pallid Wych Flesh.
