For Averland and the Emperor! - Empire Cavalry

There are times when you have the very, very best intentions but get sidetracked. My Empire have very much fitted into this catagory. Way back in 2015 I started this army. Five flamin' years ago. I got a couple of units painted (more on them later) and then got somewhat Dwarf distracted... Well, all that is over now. Averland rides to war and we ride with them!

Warcry - A review

Em recently got very excited about doing some fantasy skirmish gaming and was looking around at building up a Frostgrave warband. Her research led her to the newly released Warcry, specifically the starter set, with it's generous pile of scenery and a feral looking warband she was intending on using as her Frostgrave warband. Since it arrived as a complete game we decided to give it a try. This would be my first real dip into the Age of Sigmar universe since they blew up the old World (it's still too soon). This is our thoughts on the game. Emma's Thoughts What's in the box It's hefty, and so is the price tag. But if you break it down into 'normal' GW model costs, everything in there is really a steal (as I've discovered is usually the case with these boxed sets).  I have to be honest, the set first appealed to me because I could see the Untamed Beasts models working great with my newly purchased Frostgrave wizard (the Jaguar Boudi female shaman mo...

Kairic Acolytes

Welcome to another edition of Maisey doesn't stick to the damn plan. In this episode Maisey abandons his plans to get the last of his unfinished undead models complete before starting anything new.  Maisey will now stop talking in the third person.  Yep, I totally stopped working on the last of the skeleton units. In fairness I was trying to do a batch of 68 skeletons and a character. Which is a pretty large batch of models (unless you play Skaven). Once I had finished painting the skeletons I took a pause before beginning the basing, which was a fatal mistake.  At some point during this pause someone made the decision to start talking about doing a narrative PVP 40k campaign. This campaign would see the Thousand Sons, Craftworld Iyanden, and the Imperial Guard thrown together in a 'yet to be revealed to the players' situation. So I got a little excited and tore into the box of Kairic Acolytes that I had been saving for later. Kairic Acolytes? Y...

Warhammer: (r)age (quit) of Sigmar

As every wargamer with a web connection (or, I suppose, the willingness to read White Dwarf) knows, a new version of the Warhammer Fantasy rules has just been released. It's four pages long. And it's free. It seems only right that the Beard Bunker should join legions of commentators elsewhere and fart our collective opinion all over the intertubes, because the internet has the capacity to be one great big opinionated fart horn and it's nice to be a part of something big. There are of course several topics to discuss. I'm going to talk about the underlying game design, and I'm going to try and be fair. Jeff is going to be talking about the dissection and discarding of the Old World setting, and he will probably not be as nice. By 'not as nice,' I suspect it's going to read like W:AOS walking innocently into a back alley and spending seven quality minutes getting thoroughly seen to by a burly man wielding an industrial sander, a hoover, a pedi...
