Krusade Orkvolution

Back in 8th edition I got back into 40k after a bit of a break, and built myself an Ork army.  I wrote about it here .  When 9th came out and brought with it Crusade, I started with Raven Guard, but eventually I wanted to pick up a non-Imperial Crusade army to play against Imperial armies such as Charlie’s Cobalt Scions .  When the Ork Codex dropped full of Crusade goodness, I knew it was time to dust of Da Ork Airforce and bring Da Two Worlds Waaagh! To the Eridani Sector . A Blood Axe army vaguely themed towards WW2 with an emphasis on aircraft.  The core of the army is a large mob of choppa boyz (Da Paras) that I often deep strike (using the Tellyporta stratagem, but instead of teleporting I flavour it as them parachuting out of da Orkules), a mob of shoota boyz for holding objectives (Da Guard) and a mob of Kommandoes (Bravo Toof Zero) to take and hold forward objectives.  Fire support is provided by aircraft and mek guns.   Getting Legal First up,...

Negative GorkRider, Da Pattern is Full!

A history of high speed passes over five Big Mek's Workshops and one Warboss's Squig I felt the need, the need for speed. And endless cliched Top Gun quotes, so I put a couple of Ork planes together and here they are. Is your ego riting cheques wot your Dakka can't cash? Then you need a Dakkajet.  The Dakkajet received a bit of conversion work to it. - I swapped the position of the vent hatch and the cockpit to give the jet a 'longer bonnet' so that it looks faster. - I dislike the stock landing gear, and wanted to make at least one of the planes usable as a static model / scenery. With that in mind, I created a set of landing gear from the landing skids and a set of cheap 1/35 resin Stuka wheels off Ebay. These pin into little holes in the side of the fuselage and allow the plane to sit on the ground and look a bit like a proper plane that could e.g. land without exploding. Fortunately, the holes aren't particularly obvious when the pla...

Build a Bigger Choppa...

And the Orks will beat a path to your door.   A bit ago , Geoff said that he was about to make a Chinork for the Special Ork Service. As luck would have it… this is something I’ve done recently for my own nefarious purposes, and here is its journey from bits to hits.. Or something.   Now, other than the joy of having my own unique thing, why would I bother scratch building it when Forgeworld make one?   This one in fact .   Trouble is… I don’t particularly like the Forgeworld model.. For me, it looks too tall, too bulky and it doesn’t ‘feel’ like it could fly.   The ‘feel’ of a model is an important thing for me. Whilst a model (particularly an Ork one) doesn’t necessarily need to have all the bits that would make it function, it does have to look like it would or could work. My biggest problem with the FW Chinork is that it looks like the chain drive (running from the rear mounted engine to the front mount...
