Maisey: I know I have said this before, and I know I’ll be saying it again at some point in the future, but as of right now the Thousand Sons are done. Yes done. Completely. 100% totally farm fresh done. 5pm Friday afternoon type done. Take the turkey out of the oven because it’s done done. I’ve reached a very healthy 1750 pts worth of stuff. I was actually aiming at 1500 pts but I had a slight misunderstanding around the way 8th edition calculates points. So now being clear that nothing comes for free anymore I’ve arrived at 1750 pts. Which to me is a very solid core of a collection. It's always hard getting everything into a single photo, but you get the idea. The latest and last things added to the army, beyond what we’ve seen here before, is a huge pile of worthless cannon fodder glorious Cultists, 30 of them to be exact, more Tzaangor, a pair of Helbrutes, and a rather large Forgefiend. I do have some reasonings behind these choices. Introducing Nuterhek... ...

The Chaos of Interpersonal Relationships

Good evening Bunkerers (or whatever time of day it so happens to be when you read this). A little while ago (last August to be exact) we got rather excited about small scale fantasy armies. 750 pts, no units bigger than 20 (unless you are a Goblin or Skaven Slave), No Lords (looking at the Goblins again), the army must be at least 3 units + characters. I can't remember if there was any other restrictions we had decided on (anyone else remember?). Anyway, we had a lot of fun with these little armies and I got the notion in my head to use these rules to build a Chaos warband. There might have been some vague discussions about all of us doing something similar or that might have just been in my head and I was planning on talking about that (this sort of thing happens a lot). In true Maisey fashion I got rather over excited and read the chaos book from cover to cover (or at least looked at the pictures) and worked out what units I wanted in my warband. Then I went out a purchase...

Breaking my own rule

There is a rule I try to stick to for each game that I play: no more than one scenery project, regiment project and character project can be started at any one time. This way, things get finished. For people with willpower, this rule is not very important. For idiots like me, it’s damn-near essential. This is what lies at the bottom of the slippery, slippery slope when I fail: The sheer size of the Warhammer Fortress makes the rest look irrelevant, but when you paint as slowly as I do, five concurrent character projects isn’t very clever, never mind two concurrent regiments (well ok three, technically), two monsters, some cavalry, a piece of artillery, and a fortified manor. Oh, and a genestealer. Don’t ask about the genestealer. If you’re wondering what the point of this post is, it’s this: I don’t have any pretty pictures of new shiny things to show you, because my brain has been replaced with a butterfly. But I am doing things. Fifteen things. At once. This is wha...

(Sometimes) I have to concentrate

I've had a massive mid-year attack of the Butterfly Brain ( Jeff Explains BBA ) and haven't actually managed to finish anything worth sharing with you fine people. I've been been like the fussy eater at the wedding buffet of hobby. Picking at a few things here and there. The first couple of units of a Dark Angel army. The dusting off and base coating of a squad of my Imperial Guard army. Several aborted attempts at finding Vampire character models I actually like and fit with the back story. A scenery project of the garden of Moor to go with the Vampire Counts. A third Imperial Guard army that never made it past the concept stage after I really couldn't decide on a camo scheme for them. Then a few weeks ago I added another dollop of potato salad to my already overflowing, yet relatively untouched paper hobby plate. An evil and spiky dollop of potato salad. Captain Slicey Yes, that's right, I've been seduced by the Dark Gods' promises of chives and...

A Meeting of Butterfly Brains Anonymous

We all sit in a circle, dodgey coffee in plastic cups. I stand: "Hi, I'm Jeff and I've got a Butterfly Brain." We all chorus "Hi Jeff" and I get to the confessionals part: Yeah, as you might have guessed there's trouble in them thar hills. Sadly I have made no progress whatsoever on my Nurgle Chaos at all. Not a sausage, nada. This got me to thinking why recently, as diagnosing the underlying causes of "project flitting syndrome" can help you avoid it in the future. Here's what I think are the problems with my Chaos army at present: They take forever to assemble. Oh dear god do they take forever. The corroded armour is lovely and I adore the effect but it needs a huge amount of work to achieve before paint is even applied. While the army is small in number the slow progress is incredibly frustrating. As a coda to part 1, I like the army concept too much to cut corners and rush it but I want to make progress, it's satisfyi...
